Thursday, April 8th will be a gardening day from 12 noon to 3 pm. Anticipated work will include mixing the soil, adding soil to the square foot garden, planting beans (it's too late for peas) and lettuce, and checking the compost. The compost bin is up and ready to use!
Here's how it works: layer food compost with brown dried leaves which are beside the bin.
Serendipitous opportunities include:
- discovering what is in the dirt (bugs, pebbles, sticks, roots),
- discovering insects and spiders,
- observing the larger animals associated with the garden and the surrounding woods,
- noticing the impact of the sun or shade on how we feel,
- developing skill sets: fine motor and gross motor development,
- using tools,
- and collaborating with classmates.
Gardening truly impacts all areas of learning!
